FRUIT: We love raising nutrient and antioxidant-rich fruits on our land. Our rich, black soil is perfect for many fruits that don’t grow well in other soils of northern Iowa. Our fruits include:
Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, mulberries, black raspberries, red raspberries, golden raspberries, gooseberries, aronia berries, peaches, cherries, rhubarb, apples, golden cherries, and Asian pears. (Please note: not all of these fruit will be ready this year. Some of the trees are still growing and developing. Watch our website and Facebook for weekly updates on what is available.)
VEGETABLES: We love to grow vegetables that are high in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Also, we enjoy introducing you to lesser known vegetables such as opo squash, peanut squash, bitter melon, bok choi, and Asian greens. Our other crops for 2016 included: sugar peas, purslane, spinach, mixed lettuce, swiss chard, red beets, golden beets, radishes, grape tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, beefsteak tomatoes, roma tomatoes, low-acid pink cherry tomatoes (great for senior citizens), green beans, acorn squash, butternut squash, zucchini, yellow zucchini, tomatillos, eggplant, red peppers, green peppers, yellow banana peppers, jalapeno peppers, okra, asparagus, kohlrabi, onions, and herbs. All our vegetables are also grown without synthetic chemicals and fertilizers. Our fruits and vegetables are perfectly happy with composted manure, fish emulsion, compost tea, and other organically approved fertilizers.
In 2017 we will be limiting our vegetable sales to those at the North Iowa Farmers Market and the Clear Lake Farmers Market. Because our family dynamics are changing with the children growing up, we will be growing less vegetables while we focus on growing our baking business and the fruit. However, you will still find some of them at the markets!
