Hungry for fresh produce? The 2017 season is just four months away!

While most people are enduring the ice and snow that keep impacting us in North Iowa, we are eagerly preparing for the next growing season.  Seeds have been ordered, blueberry plants have been pruned, and the high tunnel is being cleared for the next spring growing season!  We have decided to plant most of your favorite tomatoes, vegetables, and fruit again, but we will be cutting back on the Asian vegetables and strawberries.  Yes, we’ll have some, just not as much as previous years.  Be watching for more greens, blueberries, and aronia berries this next market season!  In the meantime, you can still order baked goods and jam from us.  We’ll be glad to deliver them to you in Mason City if the orders are over $15.

While we will not have CSA shares available this year, we WILL have market shares available.  Be watching for more details about this.  You will have the opportunity to pre-pay for your North Iowa Berries produce, baked goods, and jam for a discounted price.

In the meantime, here are a few pictures of last year’s produce – just to remind you how wonderful fresh, chemical-free produce is!

New changes for North Iowa Berries and More LLC

janette and jen market 2016Somehow this growing season has come and is almost gone already!  A huge thank you goes out to all our customers who helped us sell out almost completely at every market.  The strawberries, aronia berries, blueberries, and raspberries were amazing this year!  All that rain didn’t keep the sweetness away, although the weeds definitely thrived much more, making it harder for our family to harvest.  It was all worth it though when we tasted the amazing flavors that abounded in this year’s crops.

Because of our children growing up and moving on in different paths, we are changing some of our farm for this next 2017 season.  For beginners, we are sad to announce that we will not be offering CSA shares anymore.  Because we will be cutting back on our Asian vegetable and strawberry production, we feel that we cannot offer as great of a variety of produce we offered in the past.  Therefore, for this next season, we will be focusing on our sales at the North Iowa Farmers Market in Mason City and the Clear Lake Farmers Market.  You will still be able to purchase vegetables, fruit and baked goods off the farm also if you would like.

Because our strawberry field was very time consuming, we are very reluctantly pulling back on that.  We will still offer some strawberries at market, but we will be focusing much more on our blueberries, raspberries, and aronia berries.  Eventually we will have just June bearing strawberries and we’ll be phasing out our ever bearing strawberries.  With homeschooling, baking, ever bearing raspberries, and the younger children at home needing attention, it has become too hard to harvest the ever bearing strawberries every day through October.  We are sorry for the inconvenience this causes some of you who depend weekly on the strawberries, but we are confident that you’ll understand the importance of making sure our children get priority as they are growing up in their younger years!

Our baking business took off this year.  Therefore, we will now be offering that year around off the farm for those customers who order in advance.  During the next few months, you will see more information about that on our baked goods page.  We will also continue to offer our various jams and jellies that you have loved so much.

So – keep your eyes and ears open for future developments with North Iowa Berries!  The best is yet to come!

Buy your produce from North Iowa Berries 3 different ways in 2015: CSA, Punch Cards, Farmers Market

101_0093CSA shares: For several years our customers have asked if we could make a way for weekly locally-grown produce to be delivered to a central location throughout the harvest season.  They want chemical-free fruits and vegetables which they know will be freshly picked and highly nutritious.  This year we can finally say “Yes” to their requests!  We are now offering CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) shares to folks in Northern Iowa through our farmNow is the time to purchase your shares since we only have a limited number of shares available for 2015.  We are accepting the regular forms of payments for shares along with EBT (food assistance SNAP cards) for those who want to have that choice.  Please click on the CSA link at the top of this page for more information.

Punch Cards:

Are you one who likes to choose your own food instead of getting a set amount of various vegetables each week?  Punch cards might be for you then!  When you purchase a punch card, you are contracting with us to raise your vegetables and fruits for you.  You can then choose which items you want at the farmers market or from our farm whenever you want during the spring, summer, and fall months. (Please give us 24 hours notice if buying directly from our farm since we are busy with our planting and harvesting.)

You can now purchase punch cards to be used at our booth when the North Iowa Farmers Market is in session or they can be used at our farm during the normal harvest season.  You may purchase the cards by phone at 641-423-0030 between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm if using a credit card. (We cannot accept EBT cards at this time for the punch card option.)  If you prefer to pay with check, please mail it and your mailing address to North Iowa Berries and More, 19343 C 220th Street, Mason City, IA 50401.  We will then mail you the punch cards once your check has cleared.  For more information, click on the Punch Card link at the top of this page.

Farmers Market:

We will again be at the North Iowa Farmers Market in Mason City on Tuesdays and Fridays from the middle of May through October.  Just look for the green tents with the “North Iowa Berries” sign.  Be prepared to find a vast display of various fruits, vegetables, jams, and baked goods on our tables.  Our produce is freshly picked and is grown with chemical free, organic practices.  Prices are comparable or even lower than those found in our local grocery stores.  Why buy produce that has sat on the shelf for days when you can have freshly picked produce from our local farm? Discover the difference in taste and nutrition for yourself!

If you desire to buy a large amount of certain fruits or vegetables, please make sure you call us in advance of the market so that we have enough for you to purchase.  You can reach us at 641-423-0030.  Please ask for Jesse, Becky, Jennifer, or Janette when making special orders.

We will be accepting WIC, EBT, credit cards, checks, and cash at the market.

Our daughter, Janette, will also be at market with her special paba-free and sulfate-free lotions, soaps, sugar scrubs, and lip balms.  Customers love her natural products.  She also makes rugs of various colors and dimensions which our customers clamor for.  Be sure to stop by her tent which is next to ours with “A Daughter’s Handiwork” sign.
